Acupuncture Treats Chronic Sinus Congestion

A recent clinical study showed that acupuncture was 96.5% effective at treating chronic rhinitis. Symptoms of rhinitis include nasal congestion and post-nasal drip. Over time, chronic rhinitis can lead to difficulty breathing, reduced sense of smell, nosebleeds, profuse phlegm in the sinuses and throat, insomnia, and difficulty thinking clearly.

The study followed 85 patients who were given 15 -30 acupuncture treatments using a straightforward point protocol (GB20, LI4, St36) with supplementary points used to treat individual differences.  To confirm total recovery, the patients were followed for two years after the acupuncture session. 61 patients obtained full recovery, 21 had marked improvement in symptoms, and 3 had no effect.
